BLUE SEAL Museum

HISTORY

Loved by everyone for over 60 years.

In 1948, Foremost Co. began construction of an establishment to house dairy products to meet the daily food needs of the Americans living on the military bases in Okinawa. At first, only people who could get on base could get their hands on the much-desired Blue Seal ice cream. In 1976, Foremost Blue Seal Co. was born, and for 61 years has spread out all over Okinawa so that old and young alike can love and cherish the tasty treat.

Okinawa makes American ice cream its own.

Ice cream was still an expensive product when Blue Seal was established. In those days, if you did not go to “BigDip,” the directly managed store of Blue Seal, you could not taste this rich dessert. Nowadays, Blue Seal is considered the ice cream of Okinawa and a point of love and affection. The deliciousness of Blue Seal ice cream is talked about and yearned after all over Japan, but cannot be found outside of Okinawa. You can read about Blue Seal in guidebooks and how the fans are continuously growing.

Blue Seal has a large number of fans including Okinawans and tourists.

Excellent dairy products are awarded the Blue Ribbon Award in America. Foremost Co.’s name comes from that award in hopes that the excellent quality of the foremost cow will rub off on the company. Ever since the construction of the factory began in Okinawa, the name “Blue Seal” reminds us that Foremost seeks only the best in quality and flavor. Originally from America, but now a close part of Okinawa, Blue Seal has been recognized as a sign of high quality and superb flavor for 61 years.

The Progression of Industry, Culture, and History in Urasoe City.

Panels at this exhibition are lined with pictures of foreign companies and post-war industrial promotion firms which formed the Machinato Commercial Park along the old Road 1 in the 1950’s and 1960’s. The retro drink containers, food packages, and other goods these companies once produced are also on display. There are must-see exhibitions housing historical archive videos and a number of historical treasures displaying the prehistoric origins of the Ryukyu royal line. The exhibitions are organized into three categories: “History 1,” “History 2,” and “History 3.” [Translated citation from the Links of the City Resources]

You can take a peek at Urasoe City’s development, culture, and customs, as well as numerous priceless pictures and materials at the exhibit grounds. Also, there are seven content movies (including three collaborative works) showing on five monitors. You cannot see it all in one sitting because there is so much information, so you will have to come back several times to become satisfied. Searching out Urasoe’s history’s tourist route’s guide is also a must-see.
